Belmont is a small town just west of Charlotte along Lake Wylie and the Southfork River. Its proximity to the city and its lakefront homes are part of what makes this town so attractive to people looking to move to the Charlotte area. Downtown Belmont features more than 250 historic buildings whose creations date back from 1850 to 1949, which landed the town of Belmont on the official National Register of Historic Places in 1996. This is a great place for hikers to live in since its less than a half hour drive to one of the Charlotte area’s best hiking spots – Crowders Mountain…and a fun trivia fact about the town: It’s name means “Beautiful Mountain”, which is certainly fitting. One of the few downsides to Belmont is that the county taxes are a bit higher than some of the surrounding areas, however, the town has a great school system and recently renovated town center along with many other town improvements. These updates have made the town more desirable to live in. This fact along with living near or on Lake Wylie compensate for the town’s higher tax rate.
